In Seattle in the late 1800’s Guy Phinney a rich man decided to develop a park along the Seattle Greenlake shores. Pursuing his passion, he built a large mansion and decided to have a deer park.. After his death, there was a small herd of animals, which were handed over to the city governance.
Today Woodland Zoo is a sprawling 92-acre property with bio-climatic divisions to suit the requirements of various species. From tropical rain forests to the frigid zones. The statistics are impressive with over 1100 animals, 64 groups of invertebrates, 35 endangered species and 5 threatened species. The botanical roll call is of over 7000 trees and 50,000 shrubs.
