Smith Tower in Pioneer Square is the oldest skyscraper in Seattle. With 42-floors, it was the tallest building on the West Coast when completed in 1914. The tower is an example of neo-classical architecture. On the 35th floor of the tower is the Observatory and the Chinese Room where the hand carved ceiling and the furniture are gifts from the Empress of China. The famous Wishing Chair is on this floor. Belief is that if a single woman sits on the chair, she’ll be married soon. An 8-ft wide glass dome illuminated by blue lights all year around crowns the top of the building and in December, it is lit up in green.
